Full SPM English Program

Under the KSSM format, SPM English has 4 papers — each worth exactly 25% of your final grade. Most students focus almost entirely on writing because that is what school tuition covers. That means they are leaving 75% of the exam to chance. The Full SPM English Program is designed to fix this by building all four skills systematically across the academic year.

The 4-Paper Problem Most Students Face

Here is what typically happens: a student scores C+ in their mid-year exam. The parents hire a tutor. The tutor focuses on essay writing — because that is the most visible skill and the easiest to teach. The student's essays improve from 18/30 to 23/30. Good progress. But their Reading score stays at 28/40, their Listening stays at 15/30, and their Speaking stays at 8/15.

The final SPM grade? Still C+. Why? Because the 5-mark essay improvement (on 25% of the grade) was cancelled out by stagnation on the other three papers (75% of the grade). This is the trap most students fall into — and it is why the Full Program exists.

What the Full Program Covers

Paper 1: Reading & Use of English (25%)

Five question types: short text MCQs, cloze passages, reading comprehension, gapped text, and paragraph matching. We teach strategic reading — how to scan for answers instead of reading every word, how to eliminate wrong options, and how to use cohesion signals for gapped text questions. Target: 33-38 out of 40.

Paper 2: Writing (25%)

Three sections: email/letter (15 marks), guided writing like reports and articles (20 marks), and extended essay (30 marks). Every piece of writing gets marked with specific feedback — not just a grade, but line-by-line comments showing what to improve. Target: essay scores of 24-28 out of 30.

Paper 3: Speaking (25%)

Two parts: individual presentation (8 marks) and group discussion (12 marks). We run monthly mock speaking tests via video call, with immediate feedback on pronunciation, fluency, content, and interaction skills. Target: 14-18 out of 20.

Paper 4: Listening (25%)

Four parts: situational MCQs, conversation questions, short extract matching, and note completion. The audio plays ONCE with no repeat. We train with authentic audio weekly, teach pre-listening strategies, and build processing speed. Target: 22-28 out of 30.

Weekly Schedule and Structure

The Full Program follows a rotating weekly schedule:

• Monday session: Writing. Essay practice, email/letter formats, or guided writing — with marked feedback returned within 48 hours.
• Wednesday session: Reading + Listening. Paper 1 technique drills combined with Paper 4 listening practice. These skills pair well because both involve processing English input.
• Friday session: Speaking practice. Structured speaking tasks, presentation practice, or group discussion simulation.

Each session is 90 minutes. Students join via Google Meet or Zoom with screen sharing for real-time feedback.

For Chinese-medium students (from SJKC or Chinese-independent schools), we provide Mandarin explanations across all four papers. This is not a translation service — it is a bridge. We explain grammar rules, reading strategies, listening techniques, and speaking frameworks in Mandarin so you understand the underlying logic. Then you apply that understanding in English.

We are the only SPM English programme that provides comprehensive Mandarin support across all four papers. Most tutors can help with writing only.
